It's not "in the way of the gas" it's on the side of the gas-path the SCVs take mining it. Which forces them to go in a straight line to teh Command Center. Sometimes the SC AI tells them to not go in a straigh line to the CC but the storage forces them to anyway.

no. zerg builds are usually mostly bio related. and although you can go mech its riskier. Basically for terran its Mech vs Toss and Bio vs Zerg. =)
