well, to those who think this was a fake or there was no bad weather, I have to say that I watched the interview with the two guys (one filming of course), and they WENT there because of the very high winds expecting to capture some good footage, and they were lucky. It was extremely windy that day. The guy also just put it on youtube not expecting the massive viewing that followed, otherwise he might have sold the footage they said, could have made a bit on that footage possibly.

you don't want to land in a crab. that bad on the landing gear and it makes for a really rough landing. in a plane like that you would want to deflect the rudder about 10 ft in the air to straighten it out.

no. no no. no plane lands with 100 mph winds. even it if was a direct headwind. that would be retarded. that plane probable has a max direct crosswind landing of 30 kts

OK, here's the deal. All of the pilots reading these comments realize that the plane was only maintaining approximately a 30 degree crab to the right. All he/she had to do was maintain that crab position all the way to touchdown. Allow the left side (downwind) gear wheels to touch first, thus pivoting/pulling the airplane's nose to the left and aligning with the center line of the runway. Just like landing a general aviation ErCoupe; he/she couldn't lower the right wing much - engine hits.

Silly German Mantyla-1... Assuming is what got that Frauline in cross-wind trouble... I have over 3K in C47TP alone... Like I said, "Give them auto pilot and they forget how to fly"...BTW, I am not Criticizing a fellow pilot... She is just an amateur trying like hell to be one of us... She should hang it up and go back to the pilots lounge where she belongs...

Well since you're flying a taildragger I assume YOU are the amateur. Another telltale sign that you are an amateur is you critisizing fellow pilots without knowing precisely what was going on. You're a great asset to the aviation community....NOT.
