I am a fan of Prisoner and have watched every episode but you do have a point the early episodes are the best with Val Lehman,Shelia Florence Collette Mann,Fiona Spence making the show what it was. However when Val and Shelia leftthe show suffered a great deal. I disagree with you that the show sucked in later years as there are some great characters Myra Desmond,Lou Kelly,Reb Keane Rita Connors and Joan Ferguson. However the storylines became repetative and far fetched but still enjoyable.

What ruined it at some points were characters like Marlene... none of them could speak to eachother without screetching... still love the whole show tho, dont get me wrong!

i can see why the show went off the air in 1986 these later episodes sucked unlike the earlier episodes with bea smith and vera, they are the episodes that made the show great, these later episodes tried to ride on that but failed.
