This song is very Thomas Pynchon. It's comparing the guy who built the Eiffel Tower to Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great was the first guy who attempted a one-world government. To unify the world. That was his dream, and it is still the dream of Satan by the way. This is now happening again through technology and "aerodynamics." The Eiffel Tower represents the demonic phallic paganism that is really behind science... The obelisk of 2001.

Surfer Rosa and Doolittle have way more acessible (or pop, however you want to call it) songs than Trompe Le Monde. That's quite unusual, since alternative rock bands usually move towards a more acessible and radio-friendly sounding as times go by, and they did the otherwise.

This song popped into my head when I went on top of the Paris Casino Effiel Tower in Las Vegas last week.Froze my ass off up there. Great song from the greatest CD ever.

For some unknown reason pixies flirted with the the stale sound of the jesus and mary chain at two tracks on trompe le monde. This is the Pixies album i listen to most, but did the pixies feel they were inferior to the jesus and mary chain?

The most commercial Pixies cd? Are you serious? I mean no offense, but you really don't know what you are talking about. Trompe Le Monde is perhaps their most underrated cd (and their best, though most probably wouldn't agree), but there is nothing commercial about it at all...it is weird and haunting which doesn't sound very commercial to me...

This song is amazing, but is the most comertial Cd ever on the pixies history, i think...but the song is amazing! and the ¨Velouria¨ video is great! the most cheapest video i've ever seem.
